Getting Close!

Well, it’s crunch time on development for the Guild Bank Manager. The plan is to move the software into proper beta testing at the end of the month, and there’s still a few tickets left to handle.

So, if anyone out there would like to dabble in a little php and help out with the development, I’d greatly appreciate it!

Check out the Trac site at http://trac.chrisbraybrook.com/wowgbm or download a working copy of the code at: svn://cbrooks.chrisbraybrook.com/cvs/wowgbm
(Submit any changes as patches through the ticketing system.)

Cheerio!

P.S. This software is going to go OpenSource, so any donated work gets full credit.

mod_rewrite

I am slowly starting to get the grasp of this VERY handy url re-writing utility. It took a cheat-sheet found on www.ilovejackdaniels.com and this article: URL Rewriting | redirecting URLs with Apache’s mod_rewrite || HTMLSource ]

I would love to say that was all it took, but I did require 2 lbs of coffee, 1 bottle of tylenol and a whole bushel of patience. :D For the most part, however, I now get it, and was able to set up the URL re-writing schema that I wanted to implement earlier (see Updated URLs post). It was more a matter of necessity, to solve the problem with some search engines having broken links to my site.

At the moment, I am still looking into the issue of the old post ID links needing to be resolved from an even older permalink setup on my site, but for now that will take a back seat to other projects. (The post ID setup hasn’t been used in quite a while, so I expect that a lot of the links referencing them will have already started expiring.)

Anyhow, that’s all for the moment.

Blog 404 Page Update

I’ve just fixed the 404 error glitch with the blog pages. You will no longer get the ‘fatal error’ message telling you that I’ve forgotten to fix something in PHP-land. Instead, you will now be redirected to the fancy-looking “File Not Found” page. Much nicer, yes? :)

Firefox Performancing Plugin & Other News

I am currently testing out a new plug-in that I found for firefox (now that I’ve got a new computer box that can run the program flawlessly.) This plug-in gives me a lot more flexibility in terms of working with blog post content, and as long as I’m on my machine, I don’t have to log into WordPress and rely on the web client to do everything for me. It’s really rather quite nice.

I shall have to do some more experimenting to see just what the limits are of this particular editor, but I am happy to say that so far I’m rather pleased with it. (Perhaps I’ll be able to update the site content a little bit more often now.)

If you’re interested in checking this little plug-in out, make a stop by https://addons.mozilla.org/firefox/1730/ and check it out. It’s got my full recommendation.

On another note, I am currently working on a site re-design (something a little more appropo (sp?) so to speak. ) It’s going to take me a little while to get it all put together, but I think the end result will be a welcome change. In addition to that, I’m going to restructure the way some of the information is laid out on the site. (Clean things up a bit, make them a little more organized.) I currently feel that this site is a good start to what I am looking for in an online representation of my work and services, and that it’s getting to the point where I need to take it to the next level.

So stay tuned! Yet more changes are on their way. :)

Upcoming Script Releases

With the work I’ve been doing lately on fine-tuning my User Authentication system, I’ve decided to make it available, along with other scripts I’ve developed, such as an extremely handy error handling include.

These scripts are only going to be available to clients, but will be distributed under the GNU Public User License (current version).

More to follow on this.
